Cholera Outbreak

In its first month, cholera has killed at least 36 people and infected a suspected number of around 6,000 across Syria. As it spreads, SARD is concerned that the shortage of clean water, crowded and poor living conditions, and a struggling healthcare system will only fuel the deadly outbreak. SARD is taking efforts to prevent cholera, reminding people to wash hands, purify drinking water, wash vegetables correctly, cook food thoroughly, and not rely on food from unknown or unreliable sources. Ultimately, addressing northwest Syria’s poor water, sanitation, hygiene and health infrastructure are the key to preventing future outbreaks.
