We at SARD want to share with you the impact of our Cash for Winter project on the life of Samer* (name changed) and his family. Samer's story is a reminder of the harsh realities faced by many families affected by displacement and conflict in Syria.
Samer and his family were forced to flee their home in 2020 when the Syrian government forces invaded the city. Their journey is one of displacement, uncertainty, and struggle. They moved from one place to another, facing challenges such as inadequate housing, limited access to basic services, and limited income.
Despite these challenges, Samer was determined to provide for his family. He found work and his wife also found work, but the income was not enough to cover their living expenses, let alone heating costs during this year's harsh Syrian winter.
That is where SARD's Cash for Winter project came in. Samer was selected to receive a cash sum of $150, which he used to buy firewood to protect his family from the cold. This small intervention made a big impact on Samer and his family's lives, allowing them to prioritize their basic needs and feel a sense of comfort and security during the winter months.
Samer put it best, “I no longer had to choose between eating or being warm in the winter.”
Samer's story highlights the importance of providing support to families affected by displacement and conflict. SARD's Cash for Winter project is one of the many ways in which we are working to improve the lives of those affected by the crisis in Syria.
Thank you for your support of our critical programs.
