The University of Aleppo, founded in 1958, is one of Syria's leading institutions of higher education, known for its diverse academic programs and contributions to research and development. Today, it faces significant challenges after 14 years of war and enduring several bombings.
The university holds a special place in SARD’s heart - many of us studied there. The students studying there today represent the future of Syria - the engineers, leaders, and innovators who will help rebuild the country.
In March 2025, we began addressing structural issues and installing new doors and windows in Dormitory Unit 15 and the Department of Electrical Engineering, with funding from both SARD and partner organization WASL’s general funds. After two months of work, we completed the rehabilitation in May, addressing as many urgent issues as our budget allowed.
In Dormitory Unit 15, we repaired and installed wooden doors for student rooms on all six floors, replaced broken windows with new aluminum ones, restored staircases, closed unused elevator shafts for safety, and repaired partitions and windows in study rooms.
At the Department of Electrical Engineering, we repaired and installed wooden doors for staff offices, replaced damaged iron windows and glass panels, cleared broken glass from corridors and stairwells, and installed glass panels at the tops of stairwells on all floors to improve safety and insulation.
Dormitory Unit 15 currently houses 1,000 students. While safety and conditions have improved in parts of the building, many students continue to sleep on broken beds and worn-out mattresses, with no relief from the extreme heat and humidity.
The faculty and students of the Department of Electrical Engineering face outdated equipment and inadequate infrastructure, limiting hands-on learning and hindering their ability to stay up-to date on rapidly evolving industry standards and technology.
Watch the video below to hear directly from students and faculty about their current needs—and learn how you can help.

On behalf of the students and faculty of Dormitory 15 and the Department of Electrical Engineering, we are asking for your financial support to purchase beds, fans, and equipment.
Would you help us ensure students have safe, comfortable dorms to live in and the technology and equipment they need to help rebuild their country?
