Latkia Wildfires

Update July 6, 2025:

Fast spreading wildfires in Latakia, Syria, have affected 5,000 individuals, displacing more than 1,120 people, and burning almost 25,000 acres, including agricultural land and vital infrastructure. Syria is currently experiencing its most severe drought in decades, and with fuel shortages and dried up water reservoirs, severely affecting fire-fighting capacities. Approximately 100 km² (40 mi²) of woodland “turned to ash,” representing more than 3 percent of Syria’s total forest cover, a devastating loss for all Syria.

We commend the Civil Defense for their tireless efforts as they battle these fires!

Today, SARD provided 667 water packs  to the Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmets) and volunteer firefighting groups in Qastal Maaf and Rabia to support frontline operations. SARD also provided 5 000 litres of fuel  for firefighting vehicles and heavy machinery to ensure sustained response capabilities.

SARD will conduct a rapid needs assessment to evaluate the situation, assess the damage, and quantify households needing assistance.

We do know that urgent needs include temporary shelter, clean drinking water, emergency food supplies, hygiene kits, medical kits, respiratory support, and psychosocial support for displaced populations.

We are urgently asking for donations and funds to help these families!
