World Humanitarian Day

Global Solidarity, Local Leadership. Join Us in Action

This year’s World Humanitarian Day calls on us to strengthen global solidarity and empower local communities. Our world desperately needs us to take action.

In healthy communities, just like in nature, nothing thrives in isolation. Our well-being is bound up with one another’s. Solidarity means recognizing our well being and our futures are bound together — whether in Syria, Türkiye, or beyond. It means acting on that understanding and showing up for one another, using what we have to make a difference.

At the same time, we know that our most difficult crises can only be addressed by empowering those impacted by them. The people who live these realities every day hold the most relevant solutions. This requires shifting from telling communities what they need, to listening to them, and resourcing their vision.

We’re spotlighting solidarity in action. We’re sharing a special video, below, featuring SARD staff and supporters, reflecting on what local leadership and solidarity mean to us.

Also, check out our Art of Solidarity series, where we highlight artists like Diala Brisley and Allegra Lockstadt, who are using their creativity to stand with communities in Syria and Türkiye through our work.

Read our Art of Solidarity blog here. Follow the series on our international Instagram or Facebook.

Today, we encourage you to take action, whatever that looks like for you. Use your voice to call on your leaders, your creativity to build connection, or your resources to donate. However you choose to act, your action matters.

On this day, and every day, we thank you for being part of this community of solidarity.
